About Us

Each school year, Roosevelt Middle School continued progress on our school improvement plan. Because the school improvement plan is long range, its overall purpose is to raise student academic achievement and provide for a better future for our students. The plan consists of five modules or components that are 1) Identifying success, 2) Measuring for success, 3) Pursuing success, 4) Organizing for success, and 5) Recognizing staff success. This year Roosevelt felt the results of our previous efforts and showed gains toward our school improvement. Student grade point averages continued to increase and code violations are down from previous years. At the present time, Roosevelt Middle School met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in reading and math.

As all parents and friends of Roosevelt Middle School know, Roosevelt has made tremendous gains particularly in curriculum, programming and student resources. Teachers continued to integrate textbooks and enrichment materials in English, science, social studies and mathematics. In addition to our commitment to school improvement, the administration and staff focused on a secondary educational concept and took the leadership in curriculum alignment with the elementary schools and high school so that there is a continuity of learning and opportunities within the district.

In terms of student success, one of the highlights this year was the continuation and increase in students who qualified for the National Junior Honor Society at the middle school level. Our Child Study team is outstanding with at-risk student intervention strategies designed by a comprehensive team that includes both school and community resources. Through the efforts of our School Leadership Team, we were awarded a Comprehensive School Reform grant to further assist our students in their academic pursuits. Because of this, we feel that Roosevelt has made tremendous strides to improve the academic achievement of students by using alternative means to accomplish its goals.

The administration and staff at Roosevelt feel confident in our pursuit of success, and we believe that our school year will show another surge in academic gains and improvement in the quality of our school. Next school year, the administrative team will review the organization of the middle school to evaluate and revise current initiatives and programming. This new school year should be exciting and invigorating for present students, staff and parents alike with new challenges and opportunities for a successful school year.

Thank you again for your continued support of our combined efforts.

Educationally yours,

Mr. William Washington
