Superintendent Message on School Community Safety

Superintendent Abdulahad

Dear Oak Park Schools Community,

In light of the recent incidents of gun violence in Appalachee, Georgia, and at the Michigan State Fair, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of vigilance in our community. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority, and it is essential that we work together to protect them.

We ask that you pay close attention to your children’s activities on social media and be mindful of any warning signs that may indicate someone is struggling or may be in a concerning mental state. Open communication and active monitoring are vital steps in ensuring that we can provide support to those who might need it.

Please take this opportunity to talk with your children about the importance of safety and how to report any troubling behavior they may encounter, whether in person or online. By working together, we can create a safer, more supportive community for everyone.

At Oak Park Schools, we have taken continuous steps to improve security measures and proactively address any situations that may affect our school community and the surrounding area. Our goal is to foster a school environment that is welcoming and supportive, where students and staff feel safe and protected. Ensuring that the students of Oak Park are our #1 priority is paramount, and we are committed to creating a space for student success and unity.

Below is a list of resources to help students, parents and staff communicate about gun violence:
